Zamiyah, CMS ‘19: “I feel ready for this moment—not scared!”

Four short years ago Zamiyah started her journey at CMS as a very curious and independent young girl. In just a few short months she will be the second student in her graduating class that will board for high school. In the fall, she will be attending Cristo Rey Brooklyn and will participate in the Boys Hope Girls Hope program that provides housing to students attending Cristo Rey Brooklyn. Zamiyah continuous to be the curious and enthusiastic student she was when she first entered CCC.

Zamiyah is an insightful and hardworking student who never missed an opportunity to be involved in CMS. Not only was she a part of the basketball and softball team, but she also participated in the Cinderella play. While the average 8th grader might be a little scared to start high school, Zamiyah is confident and equipped to begin this new journey: “High school has been so normalized here, I feel ready for this moment—not scared!” With our challenging and holistic curriculum, Zamiyah feels well prepared to dive into the high school experience and take advantage of the opportunities Cristo Rey Brooklyn has to offer. “I’m most excited for math in high school. I love how challenging and exciting math is. We got to cover algebra with Ms. Banks and I loved it.” She acknowledges that high school will be challenging but is confident that with the continuous support of GSP she will be able to succeed.

When asked what she hopes to gain from high school, Zamiyah said she hoped to set a good example for her younger sister, Juel, who is a rising 7th grader at CCC. She also hopes to continue to work on her confidence, stating that one of her personal goals is to “to love myself and believe in myself. That is easy to do here at CCC but I want to do that always.”

We are committed to supporting Zamiyah throughout her high school journey and beyond, ensuring that she continues to grow in independence and confidence!
