Students
- Since the Center opened 15 years ago, over 200 girls have walked through our doors.
- Our girls come to us from overcrowded, underachieving public schools, and many students arrive in fifth grade performing well below grade level for reading and mathematics.
- Most of our students live within walking distance of the Center on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
- 89% of our current student population is Latina, and most of these families have emigrated from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. We also have students and graduates with other Caribbean, African, African American, Chinese American, East European, Filipino, Russian and South American backgrounds.
- Our students come from low-income families, with 98% qualifying for the federal government’s reduced or free lunch programs.
